The Clothesline Project (Terry Longhorn, Ottawa Real Estate Broker)

On June 14th, I joined other volunteers from the WOCRC’s Peer
Support group for Chrysalis House and Violence
Against Women (VAW) Services outside
the WOCRC in Kanata to hang colourful and creative
T-shirts on clotheslines

The T-shirts, painted by women and children, depicted
their personal experiences with violence. Droplets of
rain dotted the sidewalk throughout the day, but it did
not deter a good number of passers-by from stopping
and taking the time to read and appreciate the messages
written on the T-shirts.
 

The Clothesline Project, which is an international event,
started in Cape Cod in 1990 to raise awareness of the issue
of violence against women. There are 500 communities
that participate in this project.
